Fire chars 2,000 acres along Va. highway

MONTVALE, Va. — A federal crew trained to handle wildfires was brought in Monday to battle a woodland blaze that had consumed nearly 2,000 acres and closed an eight-mile portion of the Blue Ridge Parkway.

Embers from a wood stove were believed to have started the blaze Saturday, said Bill Hoy, public information officer for Bedford County.
