Indianapolis, IN – Developers demonstrated FLAME-SIM, a first-of-its-kind real-time, real world 3D firefighter training simulator, to thousands of firefighters during the FDIC conference from April 10th to April 12, 2008. Their mission over the past 16 months was to create a useful and accurate training tool for first arriving companies and battalions to train communication and decision making on the fireground, and ultimately save lives. Judging by the response to FLAME-SIM at FDIC they have accomplished their mission, making FLAME-SIM the absolute market leader in firefighter training technology.
During an interview at the FLAME-SIM booth the editor of Fire Engineering Magazine, Fire Chief (ret.) Bobby Halton said tactical simulations were “the future of training in the fire service” and “brought the tools used by the military” to bear for firefighters worldwide.
“The excitement at FDIC was palpable. Our research into fire training has been rewarded by the interest the fire service has shown toward FLAME-SIM. Every one of those guys who gets better training is one less that might be injured in the line of duty,” said Kerry J Ganofsky CEO/Founder of FLAME-SIM.
Designed with input from leading fire professionals and research into NFPA and NIST documents, the 3D computer simulation puts the trainee in “real world” situations in a totally interactive training environment that challenges them either randomly or by instructor directed programming to apply theoretical training to reenacting actual firefighting situations.
“FLAME-SIM utilizes a highly sophisticated model incorporating physics to illustrate fire burn patterns, structural damage, soot deposits, and airflow smoke patterns”, explained Terry Wellman, Lead Engineer on the project. “It is especially computationally challenging and the result offers us an exceptionally accurate picture for firefighters to improve their lifesaving skills, techniques and procedures.”
FLAME-SIM is scheduled to be released in summer 2008 and has pre-sold copies already to numerous departments across the US, as part of the FLAME-SIM early adopter program.
FLAME-SIM LLC is the market leader in firefighter simulation training and is based in Hoffman Estates, IL.
