Spevco Delivers 3 Mobile Medical Units to FEMA

Spevco and FEMA team up to improve response rate for catastrophes

PFAFFTOWN, N.C. - Spevco, Inc.'s Emergency & Medical Vehicle Division has delivered 3 mobile medical units to the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA).

"Our entire production team worked around the clock to design and build 3 mobile medical units for FEMA within 30 days of the issuance of the contract," said KC Spurlock, head of Spevco's Emergency and Medical Vehicle Division.

The National Disaster Medical System (NDMS), a section of FEMA, initiated this deal with Spevco. "They realized the impact these vehicles could have on helping the recent hurricane victims, as well as the victims of disasters in the future," Spurlock explained. The NDMS coordinated with Spevco to get the vehicles built, delivered and in the field as quickly as possible.

The vehicles are now being used in areas of the Gulf Coast where hospitals and health-care facilities were destroyed. With these units, FEMA can be on site anywhere in the continental Unites States within 48 hours of a catastrophe.

Each 53-foot vehicle has one operating room and 8 critical care beds. The units can be set up in 30 to 45 minutes and contain enough water, oxygen and power to function on their own until re-supplied.

In additional to multiple medical designs, Spevco also has designs for emergency-operations centers, law-enforcement command centers and investigative laboratory units that focus on methamphetamines and other drugs.

"We look forward to continuing to work with FEMA to help build a proactive environment for our country's disaster relief and for other emergency and medical related needs," Spurlock said. "We also look forward to continuing to work with other agencies and organizations that can utilize our mobile technology and design expertise for their emergency and medical related needs."

Spevco Inc.'s Emergency & Medical Vehicle Division designs and manufactures high quality, custom-built emergency and medical vehicles. For more information, visit www.spevco.us or contact KC Spurlock directly.
