2 firefighters treated for heat exhaustion at Minn. fire

EAGAN, Minn. — Two firefighters battling an Eagan apartment building fire were treated for heat exhaustion Monday night.

The cause of the fire at LeMay Lake Apartments remains under investigation, officials said. When crews arrived shortly after 6:15 p.m., they found flames at the main entrance of the 3025 Eagandale Ave. complex that extended into a third-floor common area, Eagan Fire Chief Mike Scott said.

Several people were rescued from balconies. One cat died in the blaze. Six of the 106 units in the building were significantly damaged.

Firefighters worked into the early morning Tuesday. Crews from Mendota Heights, Rosemount and Apple Valley assisted in putting out the blaze. The firefighters treated for heat exhaustion at the scene were from Eagan.

The fire started at the outer first-floor doorway at the building's main entrance, Scott said.
