Baltimore firefighter sent to hospital for exhaustion

By Gus G. Sentementes

NORTH BALTIMORE — Several people escaped from an early morning rowhouse fire on York Road in North Baltimore, and a city firefighter was hospitalized for exhaustion while fighting the blaze, authorities said.

Occupants in the rowhouse, in the 4600 block of York Road, escaped without injury after the fire broke out around 3:30 a.m. Firefighters responded and brought the fire under control about 4 a.m., a department spokesman said. A portion of York Road in the immediate area of the house was closed for several hours this morning, the spokesman said.

One firefighter was taken to Maryland Shock Trauma Center for treatment for exhaustion and fatigue, spokesman Kevin Cartwright said. Cartwright said that several people were inside the house, but he did not have a specific number. They escaped without injuries, he said.
