Boy presents Wash. firefighters with refreshing gift

5-year-old Dylan Jolley saw firefighters working hard to put out a fire and thought they would appreciate some support

WEST VALLEY, Wash. — The West Valley Fire Department received a donation from an unusual source on Monday: a 5- year-old boy.

Dylan Jolley and his parents, Chris and Brook Jolley, arrived at the station with 938 bottles of water, 264 bottles of Gatorade, a case of V8 Fusion, 818 granola bars, 54 packages of trail mix and 2 packages of beef jerky.

Fire Chief Dave Leitch accepted the gift. He gave Dylan a tour of the fire station and a fire book, and let him try on firefighting gear.

Dylan lives on Klendon Drive and was able to see the flames that ignited in Cowiche on July 18, and after seeing the damage, he got to thinking.

"You know, Mom, the firefighters worked really hard to save them," Dylan told his mom. "Can we buy them a present? We can take water, Gatorade and granola bars."

Brook Jolley helped her son type a letter to his neighbors asking for donations for the fire department.

He wanted to give them supplies to energize and refuel them while they battle flames, said Jolley. He even gave money from his own piggy bank to buy supplies.
