Crews doused the flames from a distance because ammunition stored inside the shed began to explode

RIALTO, Calif. — Three Rialto firefighters were injured while battling a shed fire Monday night.

One of the firefighters received a minor burn and two others suffered from heat exhaustion, said Rialto fire Capt. Art Poduska.

The fire was reported about 8:30 p.m. in the 300 block of North Cactus Avenue.

Thirty-two firefighters arrived and found a wood-framed storage shed on fire. Crews doused the flames from a distance because ammunition stored inside the shed began to explode.

They also faced pack rat conditions both inside and around the shed, making it difficult to fully extinguish the blaze.

The fire was out about 2 a.m. this morning. Investigators came to the scene to determine the cause of the blaze.
