By FireRescue1 Staff

AURORA, Colo. — A Colo. firefighter riding his bike to work Friday morning died after he was struck by a car.

Firefighter Jason Murphy, an engineer with Aurora Fire since 2003, was hit at a crosswalk, according to KKTV.

Firefighter Murphy was transported to the hospital but died of his injuries.

The driver, William Nale, did not see Firefighter Murphy or the red light at the intersection because he was blinded by the morning sun, police told the Aurora Sentinel.

Nale was cited for careless driving resulting in death and failure to provide proof of insurance upon request.
