HAMTRAMCK, Mich. — Three Hamtramck firefighters were injured Friday morning while battling a house fire.

The fire happened at a vacant house on the 3000 block of Edwin Street, Capt. Chris Sanchez said.

Steve Brummer, a three-year department veteran, fell through the roof at least 12 feet and landed on his back. Mike Young, with the department six years, fell with a ceiling joist between his legs, Sanchez said. And when the fire was nearly put out, five-year veteran Eric Stoddard fell through a staircase.

"You know that risk is there, but just don't expect things like that to happen," Sanchez said.

All three were rushed to Detroit Receiving Hospital where they were treated and later released. The injuries come as Hamtramck city officials are considering cutting the fire department's budget.
