MESA, Ariz. — Mesa Fire Capt. John Delaney died Monday after he was found in full cardiac arrest in his office in downtown Mesa, officials said.

He was taken to Mesa General Hospital where he was pronounced dead about 2:30 p.m.

Delaney, 44, was well-thought of at the department. When word went out in 2002 that he needed a kidney transplant, about 25 donors stepped forward, and one ended up supplying the donor kidney.
