Department: Paterson (N.J.) Fire Department - [Paterson, New Jersey]

On Aug. 13, a general alarm fire prompted the response of Paterson (N.J.) firefighters. The fire involved numerous stacks of pallets in a lumber/pallet yard on Fulton Street. Firefighters faced a heavy fire condition, water problems, access problems and many exposure problems. A large contingent of mutual-aid units helped establish a reliable water supply and keep the flames contained to the pallet yard with only minor extension to a three-story frame occupied multiple dwelling and a one-story commercial building. The fire took over three hours to control.
