Hazmat spill at University of Vermont
Department: Burlington Fire Department - [Burlington, Vermont]
BURLINGTON, Vt. — At 2:39 PM the Burlington Fire Department and the University of Vermont Rescue Squad were dispatched to UVM's Health Science Research Facility for a chemical spill. A worker in a fourth floor laboratory spilled a container of phenyl, splashing some of it onto his leg, resulting in some minor skin irritation. The man removed his contaminated lab coat and left it there while he walked to a shower in the basement and decontaminated himself. He was transported to the Emergency Room at Fletcher Allen Health Care by UVM Rescue. A UVM Rescue EMT, a UVM Police Officer and a co-worker in the lab at the time of the spill were also evaluated at the emergency room as a precaution, but they were not injured.
