Early morning fire displaces family

Department: Tualatin Valley Fire & Rescue - [Tualatin Valley, Oregon]

At 4:39a.m., Wednesday, March 19, firefighters from Tualatin Valley Fire and Rescue were dispatched to a report of a fire at a duplex in Tigard located at 11777 SW Tiedeman Avenue.

The family of three adults and two children had safely evacuated and police officers from Tigard Police Department were already on scene assisting them.

Officers tried to initially put out the fire with a fire extinguisher, but it proved unsafe. Firefighters arrived within six minutes of the call for help and extinguished the blaze within ten minutes.

Though tenants were evaluated for minor burns, no one was transported and there were no other injuries. The family will not be able to occupy their home today and the American Red Cross is assisting them with temporary housing.

Because the fire was contained so quickly, there was no extension into the adjacent unit so the tenants of that unit will be able to return to their home.

A Tualatin Valley Fire and Rescue investigator remains on scene at this hour conducting interviews and examining evidence to determine the cause of this fire.
