Four alarm warehouse fire in Northwest Miami-Dade

Department: Miami Dade Fire Rescue - [Miami Dade, Florida]

Just after 2 a.m. Monday, Miami-Dade Fire Rescue (MDFR) received a report of a warehouse fire and within minutes after dispatch, arrived to find heavy black dense smoke in the vicinity of a mini-storage warehouse located on NW 2nd Avenue and 169th Street. Other MDFR companies and area motorists noticed the smoke covering the area as they were traveling on I-95. It didn’t take long after the initial assessment of the situation to declare this a 4-alarm fire.

Firefighters worked feverishly utilizing power saws to cut through metal doors in order to find and extinguish multiple fires throughout the storage complex. In a complex consisting of more than 100 storage units, well over 40 units were involved. Over 36 MDFR units responded to this 4-alarm blaze which brought over 125 firefighter/paramedics to engage in this challenging firefight. The blaze was declared under control within three hours. Unfortunately, one MDFR firefighter suffered minor burns while fighting the fire and was transported to a local hospital for further treatment.

MDFR units remain working on the scene and the cause of the fire remains under investigation.
