ARLINGTON, Va. — Every firefighter in Arlington County was there the day terrorists attacked the pentagon and the many days and weeks that followed.

Firefighter Ray Buettner gave everything he had responding to the attack.

He was injured fighting fires at the Pentagon and suffers from post-traumatic stress disorder.

His pain and suffering is made even worse he says, because the county hasn't taken him off temporary disability.

Ray isn't alone; one by one more than a dozen Arlington firefighters complained to the county board about collecting health and retirement benefits.

Union president Mike Staples recalled the story of a fellow firefighter who couldn't take the constant struggle fighting for his disability benefits.

County manager Ron Carlee says since 2002, every firefighter has received a 10 percent increase in pay and benefits each year.

The county promised to meet with firefighters again face to face to extinguish their differences.
