Volunteer Firefighter William Richard "Dick" Danes died Thursday during a training exercise at the TEEX Brayton Fire Training Field in College Park, Texas. Danes, 69, was a firefighter with Brazos County Precinct Three, according to a report by

Danes died during a ladder evolution and although the exact cause of death is unknown. According to KBTX, Danes experienced a medical issue during the training and firefighters on scene initiated CPR.

Danes joined the volunteer fire department in his 60s, according to KBTX, he had told his wife before leaving for training on Thursday how much firefighting meant to him.
