NC firefighter dies after responding to woods fire


Duty Death: Gregory Carroll Cooke - [Whitakers, North Carolina]

RALEIGH, N.C. — A volunteer firefighter who suffered a heart attack while working at a woods fire died Saturday.

Firefighter Gregory Cooke, 60, of the Salem, N.C., Volunteer Fire Department went into cardiac arrest at the scene of the incident last week.

He was flown to Wake Medical Center in Raleigh where he died. He had 20 years of service.

A funeral service takes place 2 p.m. Thursday, at the Rocky Mount Memorial Park.
