Lombardo spoke his mind on cuts
By BRIAN MEYER
Buffalo News (New York)
A fire captain who was critical of past cuts in service has been nominated by Mayor Byron W. Brown to become fire commissioner.
Michael L. Lombardo was selected for the $102,344-a-year job over 29 others, including one out-of-state applicant. Brown called the 22-year department veteran a "firefighter's firefighter" who has earned more than a dozen heroism medals and has traveled the continent as a fire service trainer.
The appointment of Lombardo, 47, must be confirmed by the Common Council.
