Australia may call on US firefighters to aid in arresting blaze

Australia will call in 100 United States firefighters if the efforts of its own 4,000-strong volunteer brigade backed by 48 aircraft fail to contain a blaze in Victoria that has burned out 400,000 hectares.

"If the fire conditions worsen considerably then there is potential that we would bring firefighters from America over to support us - as we supported them earlier this year," Victorian state government spokesman Craig Ferguson said Wednesday.
