Charleston mayor releases report into Sofa Super Store fire

By FireRescue1 Staff

CHARLESTON, S.C. — Charleston Mayor Joseph Riley issued a report Tuesday into the Sofa Super Store fire that claimed the lives of nine firefighters in June.

At a press conference, Mayor Riley said the report addresses city officials' response to the fire in the three months since the tragedy.

He added that a Fire Review Task Force has already made 27 recommendations, 19 of which have been implemented and the remainder will be "as soon as possible."

Among the recommendations were the creation of three new fire positions, including an assistant to the chief and a department safety officer.
