Phoenix to conduct 'world's biggest fire drill'

By Beth Litwin

PHOENIX — About 30,000 people will be evacuated from 50 offices in Phoenix on Oct. 4 as part of "The World's Biggest Fire Drill."

It will be "business as usual," said Phoenix Fire Division Chief Mike Sandulak. Office buildings should do fire drills semi-annually, said Sandulak, adding that the goal of holding a large-scale fire drill is to test building's evacuation plans and get everyone in the buildings coordinated and efficiently evacuated.

The Phoenix Fire Department has teamed up with the Building Owners and Managers Association of Greater Phoenix for the large-scale fire drill to emphasize the importance of fire safety and proper fire escape plans.
