Member Submission

GLEN FALLS, N.Y. — City of Glens Falls Firefighters were alerted to a house fire on September 26, 2007 at 17:15 hours. First arriving units found heavy smoke and fire showing from a 2 family, 2 ½ story dwelling at 40 Sherman Ave. A third alarm was dispatched at 17:19 hours upon size up of first arriving units, followed by a fourth alarm at 17:26. Mutual aid was summoned for the Bay Ridge and West Glens Falls Fire Departments to provide cover assignments for the city fire stations.

Firefighters made a quick Blitz Attack with a deck gun from engine 2, followed by an aggressive interior attack to knock down remaining fire. The fire was quickly brought under control. One resident received minor burns when she attempted to extinguish the fire before exiting the dwelling. The blaze was investigated by the City of Glens Falls Cause and Origin Team and believed to have been caused by a shorted extension cord to an air conditioning unit.
