Ala. training captain dies after stroke


Duty Death: Joseph R. Mixon - [Birmingham, Alabama]

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. — A Training Captain died Tuesday when he suffered a stroke after leaving work at Birmingham, Ala.. Fire and Rescue.

Training Captain Joseph R. Mixon, 51, felt ill while performing in-station duties Monday, according to the USFA. He left for home, where he suffered a cerebrovascular accident (stroke) just after midnight on Tuesday.

Captain Mixon passed away at a hospital later in the day.

Memorial fund donations may be made in honor of Training Captain Joseph R. Mixon, C/o Birmingham Fire and Rescue Service Department, 1808 Seventh AVE N., Birmingham, AL 35203.
