DES MOINES, Iowa — A Des Moines firefighter is recovering after a burning car he was trying to put out was struck by a passing car.
Daniel Ide was trying to put out a car fire on an Interstate 235 exit ramp near downtown Des Moines on Sunday when a passing car hit the car, pushing it into Ide.
A fire engine was in the right lane of traffic with its emergency lights on.
The driver of the passing car, Teresa White of Des Moines, received a ticket for unsafe approach to an emergency vehicle and failure to maintain control.
Ide was treated at a local hospital and returned to light duty on Monday.
