Boston bodybuilder firefighter fails to report to work

The Associated Press

BOSTON — The Boston firefighter who competed in a bodybuilding contest while out on disability leave has failed to follow an order to return to work.

Albert Arroyo had filed for a disability pension in April, claiming he suffered a career-ending back injury. But in May, he competed in a national bodybuilding competition.

After a report in The Boston Globe, Fire Commissioner Roderick Fraser ordered Arroyo to show up for work today.

A Fire Department spokesman said Arroyo did not tell anyone about why he did not do so today. A call to his lawyer was not immediately returned.

Fraser has said that if the 46-year-old Arroyo didn’t come back to work as a member of the Fire Prevention Division, the department would start disciplinary proceedings against him, including possible termination.
