Fla. firefighter dies of injuries sustained in Jan. crash


Duty Death: Johnny Bajusz - [Long Key, Florida]


MONROE COUNTY, Fla. — A volunteer firefighter who was injured in a traffic accident more than six months ago died of his injuries at home Friday.

Johnny Bajusz, 69, a 25-year veteran of the Layton, Fla. Volunteer Fire Department, was seriously injured while responding to a recreational vehicle fire. Firefighter Bajusz was attempting to make a u-turn in his personal vehicle when he was hit by a large utility truck.

Following six months of hospitalization and complications related to his injuries, Firefighter Bajusz asked to be taken home, where he died the next day.

Funeral arrangements for Firefighter Bajusz are pending. Tribute is being paid online at http://www.usfa.dhs.gov/fireservice/fatalities/.
