Firefighters called to Texas gas plant after explosion

STAIRTOWN, Texas — Fire officials say there's been an explosion at a natural gas plant in a town south of Austin, Texas, but no injuries have been reported.

Witnesses say flames shot 400 feet into the air in Thursday morning's explosion at the plant in the town of Stairtown, about 40 miles south of Austin. Fire officials in a town 11 miles away say the explosion was felt there.

The blast happened about 2 miles behind the Prairie Lea School. KXAN-TV quotes school officials as saying everyone at the school is safe.

Firefighters are at the scene.
