In this month's communications news, officials across the country are watching carefully as a massive undertaking in the Los Angeles region could soon bring interoperable communications to the second-largest U.S. metropolitan area.

And more than 10 years after 9/11 exposed the need for better interagency communications, a Senate panel has advanced a bill that would create a nationwide, wireless broadband networks to let responders share data.
