According to national statistics, this year marks the third in a row that more than 8 million acres of land has been burned by wildfires, with ten of the worst fire years in post World War II history being recorded since 1995.

Steve Pyne, a former wildland firefighter and current wildfire historian and professor, says there are a range of technical solutions that can be put in place to better combat the hazards on the new frontier of wildland firefighting and believes urban departments will be the ones to lead the way ...
