It's great that cars are safer for the folks riding in them — no emergency responder likes a fatal MVA. But as a volunteer firefighter, I found Mr. Tyson's comment about us all just having to work harder to keep up a little callous. One piece of new extrication equipment is more than our whole annual operating budget, and we are not alone. It's not realistic for all of the fire rescue departments in the country to run out and buy new stuff every time vehicle construction changes.
