As the 2008 Fire/EMS Health, Safety and Survival Week gets under way, FireRescue1 will be bringing you an extensive range of articles and resources.

This year's event, which began yesterday, will focus on vehicle safety, health & wellness and NFPA 1500. In Today's eNews, Billy Goldfeder writes about accountability and leadership, and FireRescue1 columnists Jeff Stull and Jason Zigmont give tips for complying with NFPA 1500 and being safer on the road, all with the aim of reducing risk to you and your department.

Calif. firefighter dies of brain hemorrhage
Name: Kevin Pryor
Date: June 17
City: Newport Beach, Calif.
Cause: Firefighter Pryor, 31, died of an inter-cerebral hemorrhage Tuesday shortly after helping to fight the Humboldt Fire in Northern California. Full Report
