Bureaucracy hinders Tahoe wildfire prevention efforts

Steps to prevent catastrophic wildfires in the Lake Tahoe basin have been hampered for years by bureaucratic infighting, according to documents reviewed by The Associated Press.
The failure of the agencies to adequately protect the basin was brought to light in June when a wildfire ripped through a thickly forested ravine and destroyed 254 homes near South Lake Tahoe. CO is a toxin with symptoms so elusive that up to half of all poisoned patients are misdiagnosed. Sadly, and sometimes catastrophically, misdiagnosis can result in the return of a patient to a poisoned environment. With new technologies, the fire service is poised to become part of the solution to CO poisonings. Lives are clearly on the line.
