2008 World Safety Conference & Exposition® slated for June 2-5

WASHINGTON — The 2008 World Safety Conference & Exposition® (WSC&E) will begin at 8:00 a.m. on Monday, June 2 at the Mandalay Bay Convention Center in Las Vegas.

WSC&E is the annual conference of the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA), an international association that has been promoting life safety and protecting the public from fire and other hazards for over 100 years.

More than 5,000 safety professionals from around the world are expected to attend the 2008 WSC&E, which is comprised of more than 150 education sessions in 11 tracks, a series of one and two-day pre-conference seminars, and a three-day exposition highlighting some of the most cutting-edge products available. Hundreds of experts including engineers, architects and municipal officials gather at this conference to share insights. Continuing Education Units are available for most sessions.

Conference highlights will include opening remarks by NFPA President James M. Shannon at the general session, followed by a performance by Las Vegas favorites Penn & Teller. Industry leaders will also be honored with awards for achievements in fire safety education, research, development of codes and distinguished service.

A few compelling topics at WSC&E:
  • Ethanol – a guide for first responders
  • Fire detection technologies for road tunnels
  • High-rise fire protection
  • Fire protection strategies at large hotel properties
  • Emergency evacuation planning for people with disabilities
  • Fire protection for cities under one roof
  • Code changes made in the wake of the MGM Grand Fire
  • Smoke control systems on the Las Vegas strip
  • 25 years of research from the Fire Protection Research Foundation
  • Updates to the new edition of NFPA 720, the standard for carbon monoxide warming equipment in dwelling units

NFPA members will have an opportunity to vote on proposed new safety and building codes that will be adopted around the world.

A wide range of state-of-the-art products from more than 300 exhibitors will be on display including sprinkler systems and services, fire detection and extinguishing equipment, and alarm and control panels.

WSC&E is co-produced by NFPA and ROC Exhibitions, Inc. Conference partners include NFPA Journal® and necplus.org.
