DHS Announces Round 2 of 2008 AFG Awards

WASHINGTON — The Department of Homeland Security announced the second round of the 2008 Assistance to Firefighters Grant awards. The second round awarded 38 grants worth more than $3.7 million to departments across the country, bringing the overall total to 164 grants and more than $15 million.

The primary goal of the AFG grants is to meet the firefighting and emergency response needs of fire departments and nonaffiliated emergency medical services organizations. Since 2001, AFG has helped firefighters and other first responders to obtain critically needed equipment, protective gear, emergency vehicles, training, and other resources needed to protect the public and emergency personnel from fire and related hazards.
