Calif. firefighters rescue 4 dogs from 3-alarm fire

Scrappy, Delilah, Jyxie, and Sochey saved from smoky blaze

MARTINEZ, Calif. — Firefighters rescued four dogs from a three-alarm apartment fire that destroyed two units and damaged several others but caused no injuries, the Contra Costa Fire District said.

The blaze was reported at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at a complex in the 600 block of Center Avenue just south of Highway 4. It was brought under control within an hour, and all residents who were home at the time escaped safely, said Fire Inspector George Laing.
