SCITUATE, Mass. — A Mass. firefighter was seriously injured in a massive fire after he became trapped beneath parts of the collapsed building Tuesday morning.

Marshfield Lt. Joseph Kilinowski suffered burns to his back while he was trapped under the wreckage, but his fellow firefighters were able to free him in minutes, according to the Patriot Ledger.

The three-alarm fire broke out early Tuesday morning; the Marshfield Fire Department respond to a mutual-aid request.

The fire quickly spread to two more homes within an hour. One of the homes collapsed within minutes and trapped Lt. Kilinowski. The rapid intervention team was quickly deployed and saved him.

At least two other firefighters suffered minor injuries.

Lt. Kilinowski is in the hospital and being evaluated.

The cause of the fire has been deemed accidental.
