Firefighters go from victims to rescuers after ambulance crash

The firefighters were injured in the collision but helped the other victims before other crews arrived

By FireRescue1 Staff

BATAVIA TOWNSHIP, Ohio — After being involved in a four-vehicle crash, three Ohio firefighters immediately started tending to the other victims.

The Tuesday afternoon incident occurred when a car stopped at a red light was rear-ended, pushing both vehicles into the intersection, slamming into the firefighters' ambulance and another car, according to the Enquirer.

"It sounded like a bomb going off," Stonelick Township Fire Chief Matthew Rose said.

Chief Rose, along with the assistant chief and the trio of firefighters that were in the damaged ambulance helped the other motorists involved in the crash until other crews arrived.

The accident completely totaled one of the cars; firefighters have to cut open the wreckage to free one of the victims.

Despite heavy damage to the vehicles, only minor injuries were reported.

The three firefighters, Firefighter/EMT Greg Williams, Firefighter/EMT Jake Rose, and Firefighter Marcus Rose were taken to the hospital for treatment. Jake and Marcus are Chief Rose's nephews.

"I'm really proud of my guys. They stepped up and took care of what needed to be taken care of," Rose said.
