Sonora, CA — The Tuolumne County Sheriff's Department is mourning the loss of the founder of the Search and Rescue Team Jim Segerstrom.

The 60 year old Segerstrom died Monday morning at the University of California San Francisco Medical Center.

Segerstrom was both a trainer and a rescuer having taught other search and rescue units not only statewide but nationally and internationally as well. His expertise was ensuring that rescuers were safe in performing their rescue operations.

Funeral services are pending.

Segerstrom marks the second loss for the Search and Rescue team in the last four months. Friday, November 24, 47 year old volunteer Joe Burton was killed in an ATV (all terrain vehicle) accident on Trout Creek Rd. south of Long Barn.
