Off-duty firefighter saves N.D. boy from pool

FARGO, N.D. — An off-duty firefighter is being credited with reviving a 2-year-old boy who was pulled from a Fargo hotel pool.

Tom Holmstrom is a volunteer firefighter from Yankton, S.D. He saw a woman pull a child's body out of the water at the Holiday Inn pool Saturday night, and ran to see if the child was his. He says the boy had no pulse and was blue, with his lungs full of water.

Holmstrom said that no one else there knew CPR, so turned the boy on his side and did chest compressions. His brother, Dan Holmstrom of Lisbon, helped hold the boy on his side.

The 2-year-old was conscious when paramedics took him to Innovis Health.

A supervisor says the boy was treated and released. Authorities say they cannot release his name.

Holmstrom says he's relieved to know the boy is OK.
