CHICAGO — Chicago firefighters rescued a two people, including a 3-year-old boy from an apartment fire Sunday.
A woman told responding firefighters that her 3-year-old grandson was trapped inside the burning apartment unit.
Two firefights broke open a door and said the smoke was so thick that they couldn't see and were forced to feel for the boy's body on the floor.
When they reached a bedroom the were able to feel the boy's body. He was not moving, but breathing and making sounds, according to NBC Chicago.
The boy was carried down from the seventh floor unit and transported to the hospital in critical condition.
Firefighters were also able to evacuate a 42-year-old woman believed to be the boy's mother. She was also transported to the hospital.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
