Job Description
|
| The Department Chair reports to the Division Chair of the division in which the department resides. The Department Chair is a member of the full-time faculty and teaches classes. Primary administrative responsibilities include program development and management, budget development and management, accreditation, planning, and supervision of full- and part-time faculty and staff in the department. Specific administrative duties are outlined below. This position leads Fire, EMS and EPT curriculum and occupational extension programs. This position supervises the Fire Protection/Emergency Preparedness Technology Coordinator, the Emergency Medical Science Coordinator, the Emergency Medical Science Occupational Extension Coordinator, the Fire Occupational Extension Coordinator, and the Fire Academy Coordinator.

Additional Information

| The Department Chair will have the educational background needed to meet accreditation/approval, certification, and departmental requirements.
1. Educational level: Associate degree in one of the following: Emergency Medical Science, Fire Science or Fire Protection. An additional degree at the baccalaureate level in a public service, education or business field is preferred.
2. Certifications: Certifications Preferred include: NC Paramedic certification NC-EMT-P, NC EMT-P Level II Instructor, National Registry,NC EMT-P; NC Firefighter II, NC Rescue Technician
3. Ancillary certifications as deemed necessary for teaching responsibilities and departmental leadership.
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities & Professional Experience:
1. Minimum of 5 years experience in discipline required
2. Direct supervision and management experience required
3. Curriculum development experience preferred
4. Community College teaching or training experience preferred
