Department Overview
Since its creation in 1974, Seminole County Fire Department has grown to almost 400 personnel. The Department is divided into three shifts and spread across four geographical response areas, each under the command of a Battalion Chief. Each battalion includes four to five fire stations, totaling 18 fire stations throughout the county. This Department is one of only eight CAAS-accredited agencies in the state of Florida, only two of which are fire departments.
Seminole County hosts a number of special teams, e.g., Special Hazards and Operations Team, Bike Team, Burn Team, Dive Team, Tactical Fitness Team, Urban Search and Rescue, Vehicle Extrication Team, etc.
Great emphasis is placed on training, evidenced by Seminole County opening the Seminole County Fire/EMS Training Center in 2008, which is a 44,000 square foot facility situated on nineteen acres. The Training Center has multiple training props utilized in ongoing classes, including a five and a half story training tower erected in the fall of 2009, and a pressurized rail car acquired in spring of 2010. Training programs include fire, special hazards, and emergency medical services training.
