The City of Harker Heights is currently accepting applications for a Fire Prevention Officer
$46,707 annual salary
Performs a variety of administrative and technical work related to fire inspection and prevention. Responsible for fire education and fire prevention functions for the City of Harker Heights. Will perform at the level of certification obtained to include but not limited to emergency aid activities. Assist Fire Marshal with Fire and Arson Investigations.

| Qualified Applicants must have:
Texas Department of State Health Services, EMT-B or higher
Texas Commission of Fire Protection: Structural Firefighter and Fire Officer I
Texas Commission of Fire Protection, Fire Inspector within 6 months of hire
Instructor for one of the above certifications
Texas Class B Drivers License
Minimum of five years in the fire service profession
The following certifications are not required, but are preferred:
Texas Department of health Services, EMT-P or EMT-LP
Texas Commission of Fire Protection: Fire Investigator, Arson Investigator, and Fire Officer II
Texas Commission on Law Enforcement Officer Standards and Education, Peace Officer
Required knowledge and/or abilities:
Knowledge of fire codes and City codes that relate to fire safety; physics, chemistry, and mechanics related to fire investigations; methods of investigative techniques fire prevention, and methods of conducting fire safety programs; fire protection systems and building construction; state and local laws and regulations governing the maintenance and release of evidence and records associated with fire investigations; proper firefighting techniques and EMS skills.
Ability to recognize fire hazards; develop and implement lesson plans for fire prevention programs; read and interpret blueprints and diagrams; read and interpret the International Fire and Building Code manuals; determine origin and cause of fire, and use hand tools. Must be able to use arms/legs to operate equipment for long periods of time; push, lift, pull and physically handle up to 200 pounds for a distance of 50 feet; lift and throw heavy objects; communicate effectively with the public, and review construction plans and specifications for code and ordinance compliance.
