| Firefighter/Paramedic - Village of Palatine, Illinois
Opportunity for a rewarding career in the emergency service industry.
• Starting salary is $53,980.80 with merit increases to $85,000.24.

Applicant must meet the following requirements:
AGE: At least 21 years of age and less than 35 years of age as of February 25, 2012. Limitations not applicable if previously employed by a municipal fire department.
RESIDENCY: Must have primary residence in Illinois prior to appointment as a probationary firefighter.
DRIVER’S LICENSE: Must possess a valid driver’s license. Applicant must possess an Illinois driver’s license prior to appointment as a probationary firefighter.
EDUCATION: Completion of 60 semester hours of college credit and/or evidence of equivalent training or experience, acceptable to the Fire and Police Commission. Current EMT-B or EMT-P license/certification must also be valid at time of hire.
CPAT: The Firefighter Candidate Physical Ability Test (CPAT) and the Ladder Climb Exercise must be successfully completed between the dates of April 1, 2011 to April 1, 2012.

| The Community: The Village of Palatine, incorporated in 1866, has a population of approximately 68,557 with a median family income of $97,294. The Village is comprised of attractive residential areas, eleven (11) separate shopping areas spread throughout the community, a light manufacturing area, nationally recognized schools, 623 acres of parks, an excellent Library District, and access to major highways. The area is approximately 13 square miles.
The Government: The Village of Palatine operates under a Council-Manager form of government. The governing body of Palatine is a Village Council consisting of a Mayor, elected at large and six Council Members, elected by districts for four year terms. The Village Council appoints a professional administrator, the Village Manager, to run the daily affairs of the Village.
The Department: The Village of Palatine Fire Department is a full time department operating from five fire stations. The Department is comprised of a Fire Chief, two Deputy Chiefs, 1 Division Chief (Training), 1 Administrative Assistant, 3 Battalion Chiefs, 3 Shift Captains, 15 Lieutenants and 66 Firefighter/Paramedics. All the department firefighters are required to be licensed Paramedics. In addition to responding to fire, medical and other emergencies, the department conducts annual fire inspections of schools, multi-family residential units, commercial occupancies and other public buildings. The department is also heavily involved in providing public safety education programs, including a major program in all Palatine elementary schools.
Required Certifications: Mandatory successful completion of Illinois certification as a Firefighter II/Basic, Hazardous Materials First Responder – Operations and licensed Paramedic. Failure to complete all courses constitutes cause for termination.
Salaries: As of January 1, 2012 starting salary is $53,980.80 with merit increases to $85,000.24.

| Applications may be obtained at the Palatine Fire Station #85, 39 E. Colfax St., Palatine, Illinois 60067 starting at 8:30 AM on Monday, January 19, 2012; or online at www.palatine.il.us.
A fee of twenty five dollars ($25.00) is due upon submission of a completed application.
All completed applications must be returned to the Palatine Fire Station #85, 39 E. Colfax St., Palatine, IL no later than 4:00 PM on Friday, February 10, 2012.
A written examination will be conducted on Saturday, February 25, 2012 at 8:30 AM at Palatine High School.
