Job Description
|
| The selected candidate will set standards of professional excellence for the department. The Chief is responsible for leading, managing, directing, and administering all fire department operations and programs for this combination department comprised of 60+ members consisting of volunteer, full time and part time firefighters. In addition to developing, recommending and managing the annual department budget and capital expenditures, this position must develop and implement an effective volunteer recruitment and retention program that includes ensuring that members have access to and receive the education and training required to perform their duties and responsibilities.

Minimum Qualifications Required:
• Bachelor’s degree in Fire Science, Public or Business Administration or a related field and six years of experience as a Fire Officer is preferred. In lieu of a Bachelor’s Degree, ten years of experience as a Fire Officer will be considered to have met the minimum experience and education requirement.
• Current certification by the State of Connecticut as a Fire Officer II or the equivalent.
• Current State of Connecticut certification as an Emergency Medical Responder (EMR) or the equivalent.
• Valid driver’s license
• Must be computer literate in Microsoft Word and EXCEL as well as in computer based fire service management programs.
Special Requirements:
• Residency within 15 mile radius of the Main Fire Station located at 73 Mountain Road is required within 12 months from date of employment.
• Must obtain certification as a Fire Officer III from the State of Connecticut within 18-24 months from date of employment.
The selected candidate must successfully pass a pre-employment physical and a background investigation.
