Salem Fire Department is currently accepting applications for firefighter/paramedic. All test results must be submitted by end of business day February 24, 2012. CPAT is required for this position. Candidates must have a valid CPAT dated no earlier than September 1, 2011.
Salary Information: $4341-$5996/month (includes FLSA pay for a 56hr work week)

City and Department Overview:
Salem, the capital of Oregon and its third largest city, lies in the center of the Willamette River Valley 47 miles south of Portland. Salem is a city of over 45 square miles, located an hour’s drive from the Cascade mountains to the east and an hour’s drive from ocean beaches to the west. The current population is 155,311 (Jan. 2009) with a sustainable growth rate of approximately 1.5% per year.
The Salem Fire Department provides Fire and ALS EMS services from 11 fire stations with a budget of approximately $23 million dollars. In 2008 the Department responded to over 18,000 calls for service. Currently there are 169 on-line and administrative employees, with line personnel assigned to one of three shifts working a 24 hour on-duty and 48 hour off-duty rotation. The Salem Fire Department also has several specialty teams, including:
• High Angle Rope Rescue
• Surface Water Rescue
• Confined Space Rescue
• SWAT Paramedics
• Oregon State Hazardous Materials Reponse Team
• State of Oregon USAR Task Force 1 team member
In 2005, the City of Salem entered into a public-private partnership with Rural/Metro Ambulance Company to provide ambulance transport services. The Salem Fire Department continues to oversee the ambulance delivery system and provide backup ambulance transport services in times of high call volume.

1) Applicants must submit a City of Salem job application, photocopies of the last 5 years of court certified DMV records, current government issued ID, current Paramedic certification and proof of educational requirements as indicated in the ‘Application Checklist’ by February 24, 2012. 2) Complete the FireTEAM written examination administered by NTN by end of business day February 24, 2012. Registration for this exam is through this NTN web site (www.nationaltestingnetwork.com). The candidate must indicate Salem Fire Department as a point of application at the time of testing with NTN.
3)
Complete a successful CPAT test, dated 09/01/11 or later. NTN will automatically provide documentation of successful completions to the City of Salem. A CPAT at NTN must be successfully competed by 02/24/2012. Only CPAT results from NTN will be accepted as evidence of successful completion.
Applications will close on Friday February 24, 2012. After this date no more applications will be reviewed or considered.
Job applications and documentation must be postmarked by or delivered to the Human Resources Department by 5:00 p.m. on the closing date.
Due to the volume received, the City will not verify the receipt of faxed or mailed applications. The City cannot be responsible for material that is illegible or missing as a result of transmission by fax or which may be lost through the mail.
The City of Salem is establishing a hiring list for anticipated firefighter/paramedic vacancies in 2012. Applicants must take the FireTEAM written examination and CPAT in accordance with schedules established by the National Testing Network (www.nationaltestingnetwork.com). Those candidates who have met the above criteria will be considered by the City of Salem for additional testing.
Interviews and Skills Evaluations:
