The City of Haines City is currently building an eligibility list for Firefighter/EMT for any upcoming positions. Applicants must have FireTEAM scores and a valid National Testing Network CPAT. Salary Range: Pay Grade 17 - $32,604

Department Information:
Haines City Fire & Rescue is a small department located in the heart of Florida. We currently have one station with a second station ground breaking scheduled for March 2012. We currently have 9 personnel on shift running one Ladder, two Engines and a Rescue. Shift personnel work 24 on, off 48.
City Information:
The City of Haines City is located in Polk County Florida in the central part of the state. We are approximately 70 miles East of Tampa and 30 miles south of Orlando.
General Information:
This is fire service work. An employee in this class of work is responsible for performing a variety of firefighting and emergency medical tasks. Positions in this class require the performance of physically demanding work involving fire suppression and emergency medical care. Employee is also responsible for the operation and minor maintenance of various fire apparatus and auxiliary equipment. Work is frequently performed under conditions where personal injury or injury to others can occur; employees must be capable of reacting with speed and composure under these conditions and must exercise some initiative and independent judgment in determining proper actions to take. Work is generally performed on a 24 hour shift, including weekends and holidays, and is reviewed through observation, records, reports and results obtained. Performs responsible fire prevention and administrative functions as directed.

Vision:
• Far visual acuity: Far visual acuity shall be at least 20/30 binocular corrected with contact lenses or eyeglasses. Far visual acuity uncorrected shall be at least 20/100 binocular for wearers of hard contacts or spectacles. Successful long-term soft contact lens wearers shall not be subject to the uncorrected criterion.
• Peripheral vision: Visual field performance without correction shall be 140 degrees in the horizontal meridian in each eye.
• Required to pass the Titmus II Color Vision test (ability to distinguish between red, yellow and green).
• Any recent or former history of ophthalmic surgery will require a medical clearance from the City of Haines City medical provider.
• Any other eye condition that results in a person not being able to perform the essential job functions of a Firefighter, NFPA 1582.
Academy Certification: FL Firefighter I and II, Current FL EMT and Current CPR
Prior Experience: No
Training and Experience: Graduation from an accredited high school or equivalency. Minimum 18 years of age. Be of good moral character. Must possess: a current EMT Certificate as issued by the State of Florida Division of Health and Rehabilitative Services, or possess a current Certificate of National Registry for Emergency Medical Technician. Must also possess a current State of Florida Firefighter Certificate of Compliance as issued by the State of Florida Bureau of Fire Standards and Training, and/or a numbered certificate issued by the National Board on Fire Service Professional Qualifications. Must have completed the requirements of Firefighter Trainee and meet all the requirements of Firefighter Trainee.
Special Requirements: Must possess a valid State of Florida Class D drivers license. Ability to successfully complete a State recognized emergency vehicle operator’s course (E.V.O.C.). As directed and approved, must satisfactorily complete an annual comprehensive medical examination; maintain a physical fitness standard and a knowledge, skills and ability standard as set and evaluated by the Fire Department. Must not have been convicted of a felony. Must have a background investigation conducted by, and acceptable to, the City.
