The secret lives of golf tees

Contributed by: FireRescue1 Staff

Golf tees are a light, inexpensive and multi-function addition to a firefighter’s bunker gear.

Two or three can be carried easily in a pocket or on a helmet.

Tees can be used as temporary plugs to stop leaks caused by small holes in gas tanks or hoses.

In addition, some firefighters use small nails to prop open doors, but golf tees can perform the same function.

First, open the door completely to expose the hinge plate. Place the pointed end of the tee into a screw head, then let the door begin to close until the flat end of the tee touches the door jamb. The door will stay open, and there will be no need to go back to collect equipment.
