LUBBOCK, Texas — The massive 20-ton fire truck sped around the burning fuselage of an airplane Tuesday morning before finally coming to a stop near the cockpit.

Hundreds of gallons of foam blasted out of a cannon onto the plane.

Inside the truck, firefighter Scott Nesbitt, his right hand clutched to a yellow handle affixed to the ceiling, directed the cannon atop the truck.

As the unruly fire burned, Nesbitt re-positioned Rescue 1 on the right side of the plane, again shooting gallons of foam onto the flames. Had Nesbitt not knocked the flames out quickly, hundreds of people on board could have died.
