VALLEJO, Calif. — Three firefighters were injured today when their fire engine crashed while en route to a two-alarm garage fire.

The cause of the accident is being investigated by Vallejo police.

Fire spokesman Bill Tweedy said the injured firefighters were one of five engine companies called to battle a residential garage fire at 440 Maine St. at 3:25 a.m.

Engine 22 crashed at the corner of Fifth Street and Solano Avenue, causing significant damage to the fire engine.

All three occupants were admitted to Kaiser Permanente in Vallejo. One had a head cut, one suffered a possible fracture to an upper extremity and one injured his hand, Tweedy said.

The fire brought under control in 45 minutes. It caused approximately $100,000 in damage.
